Version: 2026-09-21
These are the terms of service for volarelanguage.com (Volaré), a subscription reading platform for Spanish teachers and their students. Please read them alongside the Privacy Policy, which explains what personal information we collect and how we handle it — the two documents work together.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account, subscribing, or otherwise using volarelanguage.com, you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you’re enrolling students under a school’s or a parent’s authority, you’re also accepting them on behalf of that enrollment, as described in section 3 below. If you don’t agree to these terms, don’t create an account or use the platform.
2. The Service
volarelanguage.com is a subscription reading platform for Spanish teachers and their students: page-flip books with narration, and a classroom dashboard a teacher uses to manage students and see how their class is progressing. Access to the platform’s content and features is tied to an active subscription — we describe what that means for billing and lapses in section 6, and what it means for a student’s records in section 6 as well.
3. Accounts & Eligibility
Account holders who sign up and subscribe — teachers, and parents where applicable — must be adults. volarelanguage.com is not designed for a student to create their own account directly; a student joins a class only through the class code their teacher gives them, as described below.
Before a teacher can manage a classroom or enroll any student, we require them to complete a consent step in which they attest one of two things: that they have their school’s authority to enroll students in volarelanguage.com, or that they’ve already obtained parental permission for the students they’re enrolling. This attestation is recorded with a timestamp and the version of these terms the teacher agreed to, and a teacher is re-prompted to attest again if the terms change materially after the initial agreement. A teacher who cannot truthfully make either attestation must not enroll students until they can.
Student accounts are pseudonymous by design. A student is identified within their class only by a nickname they choose themselves; we don’t collect a student’s real name, email address, or date of birth, and a student account is created with no email address at all. See the Privacy Policy and the Children’s Privacy Notice for the full detail on what’s collected for a student and why.
4. Acceptable Use
When using volarelanguage.com, you agree not to:
- Share your account credentials with anyone else, or let someone else access the platform under your login.
- Attempt to access, view, or modify another teacher’s classes, students, or data — including by guessing or editing URLs, ids, or class codes that aren’t yours.
- Scrape, copy, screen shot, screen record, download, photograph, redistribute, upload online, or republish the books, videos, narration, or activities available on the platform, in whole or in part, outside of using them as intended within volarelanguage.com. NOTE: Downloadable student pages MAY be downloaded, copied for use with your own students in your own classroom, and uploaded to a secure, password-protected LMS (such as Google Classroom or Canvas). Once the subscription period has lapsed, you must cease using the downloaded content and delete it from all devices, cloud storage, and learning management systems.
- Use the platform in any way that violates applicable law, or that attempts to circumvent the access controls, consent gate, or other technical protections described in the Security Overview.
- Use the platform to collect personal information about a student beyond what volarelanguage.com itself asks for.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate an account that violates our acceptable use policy.
5. Content & Intellectual Property
The books, videos, narration, and activities made available through volarelanguage.com are the property of their respective authors and/or Placido Language Resources, and are protected by copyright, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and other intellectual property law. A subscription grants you and your enrolled students a license to access and use this content for reading and classroom instruction for as long as the subscription is active — it does not transfer ownership of any content, and it doesn’t grant any right to copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from it beyond normal classroom use.
6. Payments & Subscriptions
Billing for volarelanguage.com is handled through WooCommerce Subscriptions. Your subscription renews automatically on the billing cycle you selected at signup, unless you cancel it before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription from your account.
If a subscription lapses — whether it’s canceled, expires, or is otherwise not renewed — access to {{site_name}} ends for that teacher and for the students in the classes attached to that subscription (unless the teacher holds another active subscription that covers them). Once a subscription has been canceled or expired for longer than the retention grace period described in the Privacy Policy, the affected students’ records enter the automatic retention schedule and are deleted, exactly as described there.
7. COPPA/FERPA & Our Role as School Official
Where a school subscribes to volarelanguage.com on behalf of its teachers, we act as a school official with a legitimate educational interest, under the direct control of the school with respect to the use, maintenance, and security of the education records we hold — consistent with the school-official exception schools rely on under FERPA. Responsibility for how volarelanguage.com itself collects, uses, retains, and protects that data stays with us, as the platform’s operator: we’ve built the platform to minimize what’s collected for a student in the first place, to gate enrollment on a teacher’s attestation of authority or parental permission, to restrict access to a teacher’s own classes in the code itself, and to delete student records automatically once they’re no longer needed, all as described in the Privacy Policy, the Data Map & Retention Schedule, and the Security Overview. If your school or district requires a signed data privacy agreement covering these commitments, please contact kristy@placidolanguage.com.
8. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
volarelanguage.com is provided “as is” and “as available,” to the extent permitted by applicable law. We don’t guarantee the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and we’re not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, to the extent permitted by law. volarelanguage.com is a classroom tool, not a substitute for a teacher’s own supervision of their students — a teacher remains responsible for supervising their class’s use of the platform, just as they would with any other classroom material.
9. Termination, Changes & Contact
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, or discontinue the platform or any part of it, with reasonable notice where practical. You can cancel your own subscription and account at any time. If we make a material change to these terms, we’ll update the version date at the top. If you have a question about these terms, contact us at kristy@placidolanguage.com.
